I am having such a hard time going to sleep at night. What strains can help me get to sleep- and stay asleep?

There are over 100 cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, CBD and THC being the most commonly studied. The most common strains are Sativa and Indica, with Indica being associated with producing a state of relaxation and promoter of sleep. New evidence is emerging that cannabis reduces time to fall asleep, shortens REM sleep, and lengthens time spent in deep sleep.
It is important to note that both Sativa and Indica strains exhibit different cannabinoid profiles and for symptom relief you may wish to consider basing your selection on the CBD to THC profiles.
THC dominant strains are more likely to cause psychoactivity, though selected for the treatment of pain or insomnia. CBD dominant strains have a much smaller amount of THC and are used by those sensitive to THC psychoactive effects. A balanced THC/CBD strain is often preferred given its efficacy for symptom relief with less psychoactivity.
Additionally, though THC produces a more pronounced sedative effect even in small doses compared to other cannabinoids, there may be value-add of CBD in sleep enhancement by treating symptoms associated with health conditions that affect one's ability to fall asleep. For those new to cannabis, it is suggested to start with a low THC amount and slowing increasing the dose until maximal symptom improvement is achieved to avoid unwanted side effects.

When it comes to sleep there are several things that need to be considered. What is your sleep hygiene like? Do you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Do you go to bed at a regular hour or does it vary? Do you limit screentime before bed? These are all factors that can affect our natural hormone cycle with regards to sleep.
Cannabis can help with sleep, but rather than focusing on a strain, consider more what the issue with your sleep is and the THC: CBD ratio of the product you wish to use.
If you have difficulty falling asleep, I would suggest vaporizing a higher THC (start 5-10%) product immediately before going to bed. If however staying asleep is the issue, you may consider a similar product in an oil or capsule form, so that the effect lasts throughout the night.
